Research published by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) reveals that from April, new build houses will save owners on average £3,000 in annual energy costs.

On average, buyers of new homes (both houses and flats) save over £2,000 on household bills per property each year, equivalent to £174 a month. When considering houses in isolation the savings are even greater at £216 per month, an annual saving of £2,600.

The ‘Watt a Save’ report has identified that, with energy prices set to rise again this Spring, new-build homeowners will see their savings increase, compared to their older-home counterparts, with the average saving for a new-build house rising to £3,117.85 per year.

On top of this, new build properties offer further benefits, including being significantly more environmentally friendly than older properties, emitting less carbon omissions.

The data sample collated in the year ending December 2022, identified that 85% of new-build homes were rated A or B for energy efficiency (EPC) whilst less than 4% of older-homes reached the same standard reporting that 51% of existing homes rated D or lower.

Nicola Mitchell, Senior Sales & Marketing Coordinator at Gilbert & Goode, commented: “This is great news for homebuyers looking at new-build for their first or next home move. Given the volatility of energy costs currently being seen, these significant savings are of real value to families.”

Nicola added: “Our current house designs at Gilbert & Goode deliver improved energy performance through quality glazing, insulation and ventilation, contemporary heating systems and modern construction fabrics and materials. One of our primary objectives is to continuously improve the efficiency levels of our homes, with the requirements on future G&G homes always at the forefront of our design and planning.”
