The crisp carpet of red, yellow, and gold leaves, cooler mornings, and shorter days can only mean one thing – autumn has arrived! Here at Gilbert & Goode, we’re just as excited about seasonal decor as you are. We’ve been gathering ideas from Instagram and Facebook, drawing inspiration from how others are transforming their homes for the season. One trend that’s caught our eye is the autumnal doorway, combining natural and decorative elements to create stunning, welcoming entrances. Plus, who can resist the latest autumnal bakes on the Great British Bake Off? Spice, apple, pumpkin, and pastry have us drooling!

So, with Halloween just days away, we’ve collected some of our favourite tips to help you decorate and bake your way into a spooktacular celebration:

1. Start with the Outside
Your front porch offers the perfect opportunity to make a festive impression on guests and trick-or-treaters alike. An autumnal wreath can serve as an impressive centerpiece. Surround it with spooky decorations for festive staging. Carve a couple of scary pumpkins, add some stretchy spiderwebs, and set up fake tombstones lit with solar lights for a statement piece. And if you want to go big, add musical lights and giant golden skeletons like Stacey Solomon’s glittery touch on Instagram!

2. Carve an Impressive Pumpkin
Halloween just isn’t complete without a pumpkin! Our team loves putting on their wellies and taking the family out to hunt for the perfect pumpkin at one of the many pumpkin farms. We especially enjoy the Pumpkin Fest event at Strawberry Fields in Lifton! While carving can be a bit laborious, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the finished product. Start by cutting off the bottom (yes, the bottom) with a sharp knife, as suggested by Facebook reels. Scoop out the seeds and flesh (a whisk can help break down the flesh). Then, draw your design with a marker and carefully cut it out with a small knife. If you need a little help, there are plenty of printable stencils online. We love the designs on Pinterest!

3. Get Crafty
If you share your home with little ghouls, Halloween is the perfect time to get creative. Kids love homemade decorations and enjoy draping them over bannisters, doors, and shelves. By making your own decorations, your home will ooze character and be truly unique. Baker Ross offers some fantastic ideas. Take a look here: Baker Ross Halloween Crafts

4. Whip Up Spooktacular Bakes
Who doesn’t love an autumn bake? Halloween-themed treats will not only look amazing on your kitchen worktop but will fill the house with the delicious smell of autumn. The Great British Bake Off website has fantastic ideas, from cakes and puddings to biscuits and bread. You’re sure to find something you’ll love. Check out the recipes here: GBBO Recipes
